IQ Circle Puzzles are meant to be used as a party favor. My mom happened upon this entire box of these puzzles at a garage sale for a grand total of $1. That has turned out to be a dollar well spent for my classroom!

One of the brain benefits of puzzles is that they increase the production of dopamine, a neurotransmitter that regulates mood, memory, and concentration. Dopamine is released with every success as we solve the puzzle. No wonder puzzles are so much fun!

Since puzzles can improve our memory, concentration, vocabulary, and reasoning skills it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that they also raise our IQs. A study at the University of Michigan showed that doing puzzles for at least 25 minutes a day can boost your IQ by 4 points.

Disentanglement puzzles were once thought to be the work of apprentice blacksmiths to see how well they could forge iron. These are mechanical in nature and one must separate the wire pieces without force. Sometimes, the best way to solve the puzzle is to just let your mind go and let your fingers do the work. You may be amazed to find the two wire pieces come apart without even thinking about it!
